Frequently asked questions

What size weight plates fit my bar?

It depends on your bar's sleeve diameter. Standard bars have a 1 inch sleeve and take plates with a 1 inch centre hole. Olympic bars have a 2 inch (50mm) sleeve and take Olympic plates with a 50mm centre hole. If the plate hole is larger than the sleeve it will wobble; if smaller, it won't fit at all.

Read the full guide: What Weight Plates Fit My Bar?

What's the difference between standard and Olympic weight plates?

Standard plates (1 inch hole) suit entry-level and lighter home setups. Olympic plates (2 inch/50mm hole) are the more versatile, durable format for serious strength training — better supported by racks, collars and accessories, and the better long-term choice if you plan to progress.

How do I check which plates fit my bar at home?

Measure the loading sleeve (not the grip section) with a tape measure or calliper. Close to 25mm means standard plates; close to 50mm means Olympic plates. Checking your collar type is a useful secondary clue.

Do bumper plates fit the same bars as iron plates?

Yes, if the centre hole matches — but bumper plates are thicker than iron plates of the same weight and designed for Olympic bars specifically, so factor in sleeve space if your setup is compact.
