Frequently asked questions

What thickness of gym flooring do I need at home?

As a guide: 6-10mm for cardio and light exercise, 10-15mm for mixed dumbbell/bench training, and 15-20mm or more for serious strength work with heavier weights. If you're dropping loaded barbells, standard mats aren't enough — you need a dedicated lifting platform or impact zones.

Does my existing floor type affect the flooring I need?

Yes — concrete is forgiving and can work with thinner dense rubber, while timber floorboards, laminate and upstairs rooms need more protection and a firmer, denser mat rather than just going thicker.

Rubber or foam flooring — which is better?

Rubber is the more durable, all-round choice for mixed home gym use. Foam (EVA) is lighter and fine for light bodyweight sessions, but compresses and wears faster under benches, racks or free weights.
